How to Calculate Cutting SMV?
In a garment sewing factory before sewing the most important process is cutting which is back responsible to give a nice shape as per required measurement, so maintaining quality in cutting is vital and to maintain the quality it requires more processing time, therefore for proper time utilising in cutting section the main factor of calculation that is SMV need to be derived. Now we will discuss how to calculate the Cutting SMV.
The main initial operations involved for cutting are_
  • Spreading
  • Cutting
  • Numbering
  • Bundling
  • Re-cutting and others if need
To calculate cutting SMV we need some information like_
  1. Number of garments in the Lay
  2. Number of Lay in each Lay Stake
  3. How many people work for fabric lay spreading and with consumed time
  4. How many people work for cutting and with consumed time
  5. How many people work for Bundling and with consumed time
  6. How many people work for re-cut and with consumed time
Therefore the final formula is_

Cutting SMV =

= Summation of all the time consumed for each operation per pcs

= Summation of each operation’s manpower * time consumed / total pcs

= {(Spreading Man-power * Time) + (Cutting Man-power * Time) + (Numbering Man-power * Time) + (Bundle Man-power * Time) + (Re-cut Man-power * Time) } / Total Pcs

= {(Spreading Man-power * Time) + (Cutting Man-power * Time) + (Numbering Man-power * Time) + (Bundle Man-power * Time) + (Re-cut Man-power * Time) } /  (Number of Lay * number of garments pcs per Lay)

Cutting SMV =

Summation of all the time consumed for each operation per pcs

= Summation of each operation’s manpower * time consumed / total pcs

= {(Spreading Man-power * Time) + (Cutting Man-power * Time) + (Numbering Man-power * Time) + (Bundle Man-power * Time) + (Re-cut Man-power * Time) } / Total Pcs

= {(Spreading Man-power * Time) + (Cutting Man-power * Time) + (Numbering Man-power * Time) + (Bundle Man-power * Time) + (Re-cut Man-power * Time) } /  (Number of Lay * number of garment pcs per Lay)

Example & calculations:
Math: In a cutting section, 4 laying men take  40 minutes for 100 Lays. Where number of garments in the marker is 12 and marker Length is 7 yards. 2 Cutter men take 60 minutes for cutting these, 3 man-power take 40 minutes for numbering these, 4 bundle men take 40 minutes for bundling these, 2 man-power take 40 minutes for re-cut. Now find the cutting SMV in a garments production house.

Solve:
Here,
Number of garments in the Lay = 12 Pcs,
Number of Lay in each Lay Stake = 100 Lays,
People worked for fabric lay spreading = 4 and time consumed for doing this is 40 minutes,
People worked for Cutting = 2 and time consumed for doing this = 60 Minutes,
People worked for Numbering = 3 and time consumed for doing this = 40 Minutes,
People worked for Bundling = 4 and time consumed for doing this = 40 Minutes,
People worked for Re-cut = 2 and time consumed for doing this = 40 Minutes.

So, Cutting SMV =
=  {(4 * 40 ) + (2 * 60) + (3 * 40) + (4 * 40) + (2 * 40 } /  (100 * 12)
= (160 + 120 + 120 + 160 + 80) / 1200
= 0.5334 Minutes

Here is the idea format for an Operation Bulletin for Cutting Section:
